LOL!!!!!! Too funny
#69 Mos Def — “He is everything that white people dream about: authentic (”he’s from Brooklyn!”), funny (”he was on Chapelle show!”), artistic (have you heard “Black on Both Sides?”), an actor (”he’s in the new Gondry film!”) and not white (”I don’t see race”).

Hell, who says they liked em first….lol. They like everything we like because they copy our culture and our style. If it wasn’t for us, they wouldn’t have a culture and they damn sho wouldn’t have no style!!!!!

Hi Felicia, I agree that the African-American culture has had a huge impact on the world through our music, fashion, language, and personality. When I’m overseas people try and mimic it as if it is American but I quickly let them know that hip hop did not come out of the suburbs of South Dakota, it’s very African-American and a lot of people around the world have tried to copy it and other things WE have come up with or invented, etc.
Basically, what kind of positive influence do you think we (African Americans) have had on the world?
From Beyonce to Micheal Jordan, from Maya Angelo to Nelson Mandela, from Oprah to Denzel Washington. People can say what they want about us, we doing our thing!

I feel you. I don’t know much about my lineage, but I’m sure its in me somewhere. I love how white folks just take something and make it theirs– America, the world, black people…LOL

They forgot to add the roots to the list.

Hey! TROUBL people. Love the post. The fact that so many people mimick us as a culture. We should take that as a positive. We are sometimes so busy beating up on ourselves instead of looking at our contribution to the world. At the same time, they take our stuff and make it theirs, and we go out and buy it. People!
P.S. I’m guilty to.

We all know that other people (not just whites) take chunks of our culture. At this point that’s not new. It’s annoying but flattering at the same time. Also I think that website was funny as hell. It’s obvious that the satire is based on some truths. A lot of black artist should be thankful that they have whites, mexicans, and asians buying their shit because they wouldn’t be near as rich. In my opinion some of artists are starting to copy their culture (see Lupe and Kanye). Am I wrong? Kick-Push Kick-Push? If Kanye’s jeans get any tighter we gonna have to sick Beenie on him. (LOL) I’m jus sayin.

I have always believed that the foundation for troublmedia was to cause change. To be an outlet for people to voice their opinions and hopes that soon one day their cries would be heard, and help shake up everything that is wrong in the world. As a read through the post I’m beginning to wonder if this is a site for me. While I still think everyone is being true to that foundation, its strange for me (white male) to interact in these postings. I often get the feeling that this site, these conversations, are more to help empower African Americans, as opposed to real problems black, white, yellow or purple.
I know I’m probably taking this too far and making a bigger deal of it all than needs to be, but at the sametime if I post on this blog, don’t I become the exact person you guys are referring to in this post? A white male that is trying to immerse himself in black culture (troubl) and steal your style, thoughts, and opinions and use it as my own “identity”.
I’m not naive to the world. I know there are a lot of imperfections out there. I know that racism still exists and africans americans can still fall victim to perceptions and a lot of inequalities. But I thought that this is what troubl is all about. Not fighting to make sure people know that South Dakota is white america, and New York City (reference to hip hop being started) is african american, but yet tearing down those walls and putting us all on an even playing field as americans.

Although we make light of some of our opinions just want you to know that Troubl is about all people who want change. I’m proud to be a black american and I personally am reaching out to everybody. Please don’t feel slighted by some of our conversations. Sometime we start talking and joking about ourselves just like you may do sometimes. Yes racism still exists but this blog is about people not put down. We must agree to disagree sometimes to make changes. Feel free to voice and come up with topics and please don’t take things too personal. Much Love “Everybodies Mom”

RJ - I love your comments. At some point the first realization of thinking comes into what TROUBL is all about.
However i disagree with you on some points, hate, hate, hate
I am called Sir Bougie Black AkA Duke Boosy around here and its so for a reason. TROUBL is for everyone. The whole idea is that we are not mainstream, so depending on the author of the post, in this case-TROUBLMAN(Black guy). You will see the topic from his perspective/opinion which is black.
To your “stealing the culture”. Until you actually chose to steal the culture, who says you can’t participate. As I live TROUBL, i can personally tell you that we are about empowering all- even white people.
In fact- If you highlight your mouse cursor over the photo, you get a little treat from us about what how much we love _____ folks.
Now to the post.
I have qualms with the post as i being so bougie, in fact do have lineage that have been “Bougie” way before slavery. So things that might be considered “white” in fact are common in certain circles back home in Nigeria.
As i have displayed this, hate, hate, hate. I might consider dropping the Duke and move to Global Czar..One love…Sir Bougie Black himself…

Come on people. Are you for real. It’s funny but pointless. Who don’t drink bottled water. What? Are you going to drink out of the hose like when you where a kid? Expensive sandwiches? Let me know where I can get a cheap sandwich. Recycling? You pay for that. I love #62. Knowing whats best for poor people. If someone knows whats best for poor people then maybe they can fix it. But since there has always been and always will be poor people then I don’t think this rule applys . What about the # 1 thing, Coffee. Maybe it should be called…Things normal people like.

CHicity i agree.
Most people don’t recognize amazing artists till they move from the undergroudn to main stream- COMMON is an example.
Two days a go, i was sitting in a bar and my buddy was talking about an upcoming rap tour we are working on, and this urkel looking white boy was amazing off all the artists we wanted to feature.
This taught me one thing. We need the internet in the hood.
Two - People are searching for rap music and finding it.
Why I say this is because for some odd reason the “hood” is mainstream believes everything mainstream does. I think it might be because we fought so hard as a hip-hop nation to get thee , and when we did get there we sold each other out for some damn ring tones..Crank that my ass….
ANywayz- A MOM, love you, all day-everyday. You make me smile in my days of tribulation..
I Hope RJ comes back and we didn’t “scare” him, i know how the media has white folks scared of black people. ANd they be scared of the wronf folks too. The real Killers are so regular, you prob didn’t even know they done offed 8 people…. One love…whoopps, hate, hate, haate~ Sir bougie black…

I agree with some of what you said. I think they were just making light of the subject. I know a lot of me is in there.(Things that I like). One thing I do know about is Mos Def. I have watched him for a long time because he reminds me of my son. His looks, his style, and his talent. I think he is a very talented young man. Their are a lot of people out there but only few who are gifted the way he is, and I don’t see him trying to be out there he seem very low key. I Like that. Hope to see him more.

I just think it is funny how people think that those things have anything to do with race. I do agree that things are different between cultures, and that white people can’t identify with one since theirs(American) is cut and pasted to make one up. I bet half of the people(white people) that like Mos only like him for the stuff he has done on film. We wont go into the music . You are right about his talent and the few that have it. Maybe your son will have the same success. ; )

I know he will be successful. But I think when we look at all of us as people even though our cultures are different. We have a lot of things in common. Whether born of them or learned. God bless our differences and embrace the things we have in common which are so like that list. We all have to be here. At the same time my family has everybody in it. Blacks, Whites, Asians etc and when we get together we fuss, cuss, cry, laugh, play, and pray together.

LMAO!!! Yo most of the stuff “White People” like might be something old to another race of people. White people are notorious for taking something from one culture and applying it to their own and claiming it… as their own. Don’t let most of that list fool ya’ll. From my personal opinion, white people have the biggest identity crisis as a whole race. They have to take from other cultures and piece together a puzzle for themselves to feel as if “this” is the new thing happening. LOL Mos Def LOL Marijuana LOL Having black friends LMAO Being experts of your own cultures after stripping others of theirs– I’d spit on this post if I could

eye fuckin LOVE my TROUBL people mann!
but i’m just hoping the original post was kind of written to be somehwat humorous.. what the fuck is this sthing to where one ‘race’ likes something?
nowadays, it’s almost like nothing belongs to nobody!
everyone wants a part of this for their cultureor everyone has taken on a piece of that for their lives and why can’t that be just perfect..
people learning from each other and opening others up to new ideas, foods, dances, movies, dress, and whatever?
or is it just wrong that WHITE PEOPLE don’t show anyone the credit they may deserve for their originality?
and should they be given credit for giving back to the world as they should?
each one, teach one? naawww, fuck all that.. hahaha..
