It’s interesting to see a video that actually discusses an issue which is prevalent in the hood.
Soul Food- is food that destroys your soul. That shit and yes shit ain’t for me. Chitlins and shit, wtf is that. I understand making food that is good and brings families together. - Got that from the movie. But does it have to be dipped in the trans fatty oil.
I walk two blocks from my block in East Harlem to 116th & 3rd and theres a Mcdonalds, taco bell, pizza hut, wendys & burger king. All i have to do is imagine a time on the clock.
9pm wendys
3pm Taco bell
5pm Mickie D’s.
They say you can tell a neighborhood is developing by starbucks. well you can tell you in the hood when you see Church’s, Crown & Kfc all competing for the same customer + all the other names up there. And they are all right next to each other. Shit the Mcdonalds back in the burbs is 10 times better than the shit one here in Harlem. Think MCdonalds doesn’t know that black people live in Harlem… You bet your ass they do.
How come Whole foods/Farmers market doesn’t come to the hood. Show that they really care and introduce the poor communities to healthy eating. But there’s two on the west side, where the Columbia Students are.
And then the city is telling all the corner stores to have fruit- how about the city institute healthy eating into the kids diet into public schools like at the Promise academy

You was only supposed to be here on a temporary bases anyway. After you build this country. You wasn’t suppose to stay. So now you got to go. What better than some highblood pressure and cancer, drugs and anything else that can get you out of here.

Nah. Fa real Im glad this came up. What is the deal wit so many Mcdonalds?? I can’t think of any food place………fuck it, any business at all that got so many chains. Can You?……………Yea, there are Mcdonalds where there are black people, but they are seriously everywhere! More than grocery stores, more than starbucks, more than burger king, more than taco bell, more than church’s more than cingular wireless stores. And WORLD WIDE! I hate Mcdonald’s. it gives me the runs! (I know Im not the only one) Matter of fact, ………… I bet you can’t name somebody who has never ate from there before. As nasty as that processed bullshit is, you don’t have a choice but to eat something from there sooner or later because they are everywhere!

I feel you CHOPPA, my whole point was that the Mcdonalds in the burbs is a higher quality than the one in the hood. Shit- the Mcdonalds i had in Prague in 04 has been better than all 50 times i was at Mcdonalds last year.

OMG!!!! I am laughin out loud, these people are going to think I’m certifiable in a minute. BOOSY - you really need help! I’m laughin because my cousin was making chiterlings for groups of people over the holidays and that ish STANK something fierce. There’s no way I would’ve put something that smelled that UNGODLY in my body. GROSS!!!!!
But on the flip side let me just say that times, and tastes, have been changing. It’s like a new generation, a whole new revolution, just growing stronger and stronger. Black-owned vegan and vegetarian restaurants have been opening at a quick clip in New York and elsewhere, catering to a population that wants to reverse grim health statistics and adopt a more healthful lifestyle. Vegetarian entrepreneurs also claim that growing numbers of blacks in the hip-hop generation have acquired a taste for tofu ((GROSS…lol)) and soy patties. The explosion is hitting black communities in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Atlanta, and St. Louis. It’s definitely a phenomenon considering black people’s long love affair with greasy foods. ((myself included))

It’s that dollar menu, that attracks everyone and then messes you all up…..

The quality difference in the food that Boosy mentions also applies to all fast food restaurants and worse- grocery stores. Head to a grocery store in suburbia and you get fresh food, lots of variety, and usually better prices. Head to a store in the ghetto and you get what’s canned, frozen, freeze dried and WAY overpriced.

Though the liquor stores on ever corner don’t seem to have stocking issues.

I must admit. I like a burger on occasion so once or twice a year I visit. MD’s they have the best cardboard fries among the others but you got to eat them while they are hot, because the get stiff by the next day.

On the real side. Out here in california. Every concert soul, jazz festival etc I go to is sponsored by Cadillac, Wells fargo Bank, Southwest airlines and Mac Donalds. Why is that?

because they know what we like and they make sure that their brands are always in our face. It’s called subliminal advertising. it’s all about how they position their brand, it’s so that you come to accept their brand without even making conscious decisions.

Thanks for explaining. I thought that maybe they were supportive of us in some way. But I guess it’s about the bucks. (Already kind of thought that)
