Game Face

Written by: TROUBLMan

game-face.jpgLooks like we got a contest on our hands. I don’t know. Maybe I got ahead of myself. Shit, after Iowa I pretty much had my feet up riding the Obama train. All of a sudden, here comes Hillary to make my black presidenit high come down.

I’m mad. Not at Hillary. Its still too early to think her win is enough to derail the train. I’m mad at myself. Mad for actually listening to the media’s hype.

I should have known this would happen once every candidate and they mama started talking about “change.” All week, change, change, change, change, change. I guess Obama seemed less hot when change became a buzzword. It’s really funny how all these people start screaming change after it worked for Obama. How is taking the frontrunner’s sales pitch change? Its not surprising though. It happens all the time. We use a word, the mainstream adopts it, it becomes watered down and loses its luster.

I think Jay Smooth was on to something with his tolerance fatigue spiel . If so, that shit kicked in real fast. There’s a lot of forces that want to deny change. Still, Obama can’t fold. Instead he need to put on his game face and go to work.

Change may have not worked last night but the voters in Nevada and South Carolina are totally diffrent than those in New Hampshire.

I’m excited to see how it plays out. Its much better to watch a game that’s won by a last minute field goal than a blowout. I just hope the Obama camp don’t pull a Tony Romo.

man, i’m glad someone said it.. the whole change thing is crazy.. as a marketer, i look at this as theft.. you develop a campaign and your brand.. you spend time with your team and paying them money to bring it all together.. then when your campaign and marketing ain’t good, you’re gonna snatch someone else’s?? her whole life has been about change? that made me sick.. i can write a blog about that, but i’ll hush up..

now, i’m excited about Obama even more now.. i’m excited more to see how we as a people react.. because we are known to be on some bandwagon or flavor of the month stuff.. when our team falls off, we will jump.. and i’m really hoping that doesn’t happen.. we have to stay united (and i know i’m the same one talking about pessimism, but since he lost, that went out the window), and i really hope we do..

i saw Andrew Sullivan talking about (in his blog) how it was good for Obama to take that L, because he won’t be winning for euphoria sake.. i like to hear ppl say that.. but i’m worried that people will begin to jump, and i hope Barack is prepared for that.. cuz he has to weather that.. truth be told, most of us didn’t think he would turn it on just yet.. NH is Hillary’s spot.. those are her peoples.. but with her “water works” she got the sympathy votes on top of that.. Billy coming in didn’t hurt either, cuz y’all know we love us some Billy..

i just want us to hold on to that hope, because seeing the number of votes he received in NH is HUGE!

Obama should take little solace in having these unoriginal candidates echo his battle cry. Like sports politics is a copy cat league. Whenever something is successful it is inevitably mimicked. I find comfort in hoping the masses will see through all that noise and realize that prior to Iowa there was only one man whose voice uttered “Change” and he has been doing so for a long, long time. If people don’t realize that Hillary, Romney and Huckabee don’t really mean it when they speak of change and that it is nothing more than a follow the leader routine then nothing has and nothing will change!

Think about it this way, pundits said Obama wasn’t supposed to win Iowa but he did and he basically lost NH in a photo finish. Only a year ago I thought it was no way that America would allow a viable black man to come anywhere near the white house. Obama is simply the best candidate and should win but I would caution everyone its still early you never know what might happen. Let’s say Edwards wins Nevada. Then what? No matter what happens next, it’s good to see the nation buzzing over politics let’s hope much needed change comes from this.

This is kinda off the subject but I am new to the site and noticed you wrote the majority of the site. U guys at Troubl Media Mos Def have a gift! But, One thing I noticed is that some of the post have allot less involvement when its come to comments, why do you think that is? For example I read those post that had just a couple of comments and found them to be quit interesting. Did the public not agree? Or are they just reading what looks like it appeals to them? I didn’t comment on each post because I thought it would be most effective to drop knowledge on the most recent story you wrote. Get at me!

what amazes me is that people of color actually
believe Obama will win. How in the world could anyone
jump on his train just becaue he won a state with 7
elecotral college votes. Obama is not even in the
running. He will not get the States that count. He is
not leading in any of those states. This whole

It’s not really about Obama winning. It’s about the FACT that Obama
has a legitimate CHANCE of winning. Jesse Jackson and Shirley Chisolm
never really had a chance of winning and never really came close to
even being a threat. Don’t get me started talking about Alan Keys.
    LOL!!!

Obama is black enough to count and he’s not so black that he scares
    lilly-white America. If I have to bet on a winner….my money’s still
on Hillary. I’m still undecided on who I’m actually voting for.

Barack wins 16 states on SuperTuesday, 12 minimum.
    Barack wins Illinois
    Barack wins Ohio
    Barack probably wins Wisconsin
I don’t know about California, they are running damn near dead even there
Clinton gets New York, New Jersey, Mass., Pennsylvania (maybe, Edwards?)
Somewhere along the line Edwards drops out
Barack takes half of the small Western states primaries. Remember, he is a moderate.

Everyone knows you really have to get the Big states
to win. Obama will not win those. Obama will get
Illinois. He is not getting Ohio. Hilary will get that
state. Hilary is at 45% Obama is at 19% as of Dec 3.
Obama will not get Wisconsin. Hilary 39% Obama 26% as
of Dec 5. Cali, Texas, and FL Hilary is leading in.
Nawwwwww Obama is not in the running really. Also,
Hilary is a woman. We master deception. Obama is to
nice and not cut throat enough. Additionally, he is ok
with the patriot act and most Americans already hate
the government for trying to take away our freedoms.
Hilary conveniently threw that out the other day. Nope
Obama will not win. No matter how light skinned he is.
Furthermore, Blacks do not rally for their own. Most
    of us don’t even vote.

I see how you are thinking but Kevin in my opinion it
is not logical. I say that because the majority of
people living are not logical. We live off of emotion
and what feelsssssss good. MEN AND WOMEN! If anyone
thinks that America will suddenly ok a black man in
authority they are delusional. There is already alot

then you have old white folks who feel it’s not in a woman’s ‘place’ to run a country. that’s man’s work but that man better hell not be black.

so they both may be very good candidates and could very well be capable of locking the US down, but its people wont stand for it. they will continue to vote for a goofy white man until there’s nothing left of the US to run.

  34. KEVIN DAVY

OK, let me break this down to you ladies cause you are not getting it.

White folk don’t really give a shit about what face is in front of the country. White folks want to make money and build wealth. Donald Duck can sit his ass up in the white house and quack, as long as he quacked out a 15% reduction in their income taxes, then he will be elected.

This shit is chess, it ain’t checkers. We are the only ones playing a game of checkers on this capitalistic chess board.

The questions for white folk, even when they are distributing that nookie cookie unprotected is “what is in it for me”.

Will there be better paying jobs available?
Will the new president control this immigration issue?
    Will my taxes be lowered?
Will the cost of capital be lowered so I can start this business?
Will a business environment be created where it is easier for me to sell goods and services to the government?
Will I have a tax benefit for my children getting schooling?
Will there be a tax benefit for my ass going to school?
Can my kids get that GI bill and not have to take their ass over to Iraq and fight?
How much money can I make?

Black folk like issues such as….
    Is he Black enough?
Where does he stand on the Jena 6?
Why didn’t he have to go to school in the ghetto?
Why won’t he signify and get down with it?

We don’t get the damn game. If Hillary Clinton provides better opportunities for white folk to reach their capitalistic goals, trust me, they will identify this as fact and vote her ass into office.

If Magilla Gorrilla provides better opportunities for white folk to create wealth for themselves and their families, watch white folk vote for his ass too.

It is about prioritizing your political activities in such a way that alllows you and your family to reach their goal of building wealth and accumulating assets. That is issue number one, two, three and four for white folk. Then they concentrate on their children building wealth and assets as numbers 5-8. Skin color comes in at about point nine.

    [Reply]

  36. Alon Molake

To be quite honest (in my humble opinion), Edwards should not even be in the race at a distant third, even though I agree with you that Edwards is as qualified as either.
Qualifications mean less and less in politics, while networking (both within and without the political arena) has become paramount to a political drive and a political campaign. Why do you think there are so many celebrities chiming in on political issues these days? Getting REALLY involved in campaigns and movements these days? Bill Maher. Oprah. Others…

Who does Edwards have (just bear with me) in his network? Flash over substance - it is playing a major role in this presidential race…a bigger role than it ever should play…

    [Reply]

  37. KEVIN DAVY

There will be three candidates. In the furor that dices these folk to pieces. A third place person can become a good compromise candidate. This has happened in the past.

There is also a vice presidential consideration. A strong third is a great vice presidential candidate. A vice presidential position gives you an automatic first place run in eight years.

In the words of James Thunder Early, sometimes you have to fake your way to the top…. round and around.

Here is a question (a few, actually) - I hear (too often) that a Clinton-Obama or Obama-Clinton ticket could be very possible and well-received. What is your (everyone’s) opinion on a ticket such as that? How well-received would you believe it would be? Can it even be possible to begin with? I have my thoughts, but will reserve them for now…

What’s amazing how similar many of us (US citizens) are, in bottom line, to many parts of the world. A woman in office is a sign of weakness to many in this country. It’s somewhat sad. It is almost to the point where a in-no-way-qualified man is a more viable choice than a very qualified woman. Before anyone gets on my case, remember Deborah in the bible (I call it a precedence, if one is needed).

Even though I feel that is not what we are dealing with here, I do believe that is the state of mind for many people, both male and female. I’ve heard that women are too emotional, and will jump at the opportunity to “take out” anyone that “rubs them the wrong way”. Don’t get mad at me - this is what people are stating (co-workers) .

What do you think? Is America ready for a woman in the presidency? A black man? People are going to be utterly SHOCKED at the outcome of the next presidency - there will be no more excuses. Mark it on your calendar - mark this day…

    Good Point brother!

You know we all are a little biased. If not about this
about something else. A good thing about this election
is that in a weird way it kinda brings our
dyfsfunction to the table. Obama being black and
Hilary being a woman. Both are like the ugly ducklings
becaue of all the racism and sexism still alive in
this country. That is why in a earlier post I said we
are not as ready for change as we may think. Change
forces us to move in a different direction. What the
mouth says and what the feet do are two different
things. Alot of peoeple are voting for hilary just
because she is a woman. Alot of people are voting for
Obama just because he is a black man. Does that denote
change? NOPE it just proves we are still a very sick
sick society. We for the most part do not embrace
CHANGE. How can we? We all have been conditioned to
not like a person based on the physical apperance.
Hilary has taken more heat than all the candidates in
my opinion and I know it is because she is a woman. I
also belive if Hilary was not running and say it was
Obama against Huckabee, Huckabee would win. Deep down
we all know it. No matter how poetic Obama is. No
matter how he envokes emotion with his speeches. He
could be the best man for the job but still this
country will not pick a black man over a white man.
Nope, we are not ready for THAT change. Not just
    yet…..

Again good post. It really makes you ponder on things.
I just have enough sense to know that people are
flawed and that you can’t put your trust in them.
Everyone may rally for change one day but if that
change means higher taxes they will turn on your tail
in a hot second. (a brother I know is not voting the
democratic ticket because he believes universal health
care will raise taxes and he does not want to make
that sacrifice) ROFL! Change is not easy. No transtion
is. We will see how this all turns out we will
    see……… …..smiles
