Fib, Fudge, Fabricate…
Have you ever considered the assorted “flavors” that lies comes in. Wikipedia has a good article on lying that gives a rundown on various types of falsehoods. According to the article, there are bald-face lies, where a person makes no attempt to hide the fact that he is lying. There’s lying by omission, leaving out important details to deliberately create a misconception. There’s perjury, which is lying under oath in court or in a sworn statement. There’s white lies, bluffing, careful speaking, emergency lies, jocose lies, exaggeration and many more types of falsities that people engage in.
With so many “flavors” the question is what type of lie did George Bush tell when he claimed Iran’s pursuit of a nuclear weapons program was justification for aggression toward the country. Bush’s claims, which have raised the real possibility of the U.S. going to war with Iran, were proven false this week when a new report from the nation’s intelligence agencies claimed otherwise.
According to the report, U.S. intelligence agencies have “high confidence” that Iran halted its military nuclear programs in 2003. The report’s findings also raise questions about a 2005 intelligence assessment that Bush has been using to justify his claims. Only weeks go, he even went as far as raising the notion that a showdown with Iran could lead to World War III.
Despite the findings, Mr. Bush persists with a defensive posture, saying to reporters this week that he will not change his stance toward Iran. We’ve been down this road before. But I guess Bush is back on his war shit.
So what drives this man’s quest for war? Is it the profits that many of his colleagues make whenever conflict arises? Or maybe it’s to agitate oil markets and put more money in his oil baron friend’s pockets? Maybe it’s purely his neoconservative ideology that says even war is good when it comes to exporting “democracy.” Or could it be simply be the fact that once he says something, he can’t admit that maybe he was wrong? Maybe its entertainment for him—you know like playing a video game. Does it excite him to wield his power, regardless of the lives scarified? I don’t know. You tell me.
p.s.
The goons gathering intelligence sure are a few years late. Don’t you think?
