Change: Our Minds

Written by: TROUBLMan

a-nations-mind.jpgWe’re at war–the economy is in shambles–and voters are on some politically correct shit? How this happen? Don’t we usually let the politicians and the media have all the fakeness? People, please do me one favor. Stop acting like Hillary Clinton’s gender and Barack Obama’s race aren’t important? They are. Both matter.

Of course, it’s more comfortable to ignore the prejudice that intoxicates America. It’s a lot easier to believe that we’re past the issues of gender and race. Of course, we like to think we’re not driven by fear and low self-esteem. But what do these amenities really do for us other than substantiate a false identity that we sell to ourselves and the world? How does denying we have issues solve our problems?

We’re not born believing women and blacks can’t be president. But by the time we’re able to vote, we act like only white men can captain the ship. This image of authority is as American as red, white and blue, taught and adopted in both the house and the fields, whipped into the minds of master and slave and sold to their children’s-children’s-children’s children through time. Voting for white men is policy, the standard, our DNA.

And although DNA constitutes the basis of our nature, genes are not destiny. Genes need to be expressed. Genes are turned on and off by the interactions we have with our immediate surroundings. Those commercials get it right: “your high cholesterol comes from eating ham and your Uncle Sam.”

We know genes and environment are not independent of each other, but we pretend that culture and policy are? Hmmm?

Voting for the first female or first black candidate with a legitimate shots at winning the presidency will do more for America than some dude who promises to balance budgets? Don’t get me wrong, our county’s economy is important. But to act like the president is the one person that determines the fortunes of this trillion dollar business we call America is absurd. What about business and consumer “culture.” Don’t these factors affect our economy? More important than budgets is our country’s soul. More important is the conditioning of the American mind.

They say “it not about gender or race, its about the issues.” Oh, so now gender bias and racism are non-issues in America? Blah, blah, blah… The issue is this: Policy changes because the culture it affects changes. When we dare to change America’s consciousness, when we dare to condition our minds to see women and blacks in a new light, the corrupted policies that govern our foreign affairs, healthcare, education, criminal justice and economy will change also.
It ’s about the issues, right?

i agree with you on everything you said but we need that hank aaron right now for the oval office. we all understand that its not easy being the first in any situation. from the first born in your family to the first day in school, there is some type of uncertain atmosphere but once you make that decision you realize you feared for no reason. lets mature as a country and make the government fear us and not the other way around.

Dear God man! Your grammar is atrocious. Do me a favor, never joke about Bush’s speech problems because if you speak as well as you write then you make Bush look like Lawrence Olivier. As for your “philosophy” for lack of a better word (as to compare your childish rant to true Sociological Philosophy would be like comparing masturbation to marriage). Here’s a novel idea how about instead of just regurgitating what you see and hear on MTV why don’t you read books on this issue and form a more coherent argument.

  3. Nick,

My Ninja. I apologize that you couldn’t decipher my “lingo,” but we don’t speak the Queen’s English here. Our sociological philosophy, (excuse me) childish rant comes from living the issues, not reading about them.

If you’d like to learn, I have a good book from my collection that you can borrow. It’s filled with “true” sociological philosophy.

    It’s called:
“Code of the Street” by Elijah Anderson. Good book! Read it in my younger days. Back when I actually owned a TV.

If you want, Ill send you my copy. My word. If not, it’s available at google books. Search “code of the streets.”

  4. Nick,

Sounds like someone reads a lot more than you do. But your opinions are your opinions and I thank you for them. Some of our great leaders, doctors, teachers, lawyers etc. had bad grammar. I have bad grammar. (Love) The point is we are not here for that. My sister is an english major (bless her) but she can’t stand up in front of anyone and talk. So that makes her what. Troubl’s audience is trying to develop a family a community of caring educationed people of change. And you can’t say they aren’t educated. If you only knew!. I love to here from you more because you make the conversation more exciting and your knowledge is also needed. But lets forget about the Queen’s English and get to what really troubling us all. Nuthin but Luv!

I guess Nick had a hard time finding Troubl since it’s missing the “E”.

People don’t care about the issues, this race is the American Idol version of finding a president. Male massculinity still runs this world, and no “true” southern Christian will ever vote for a black man. Don’t forget the people that want to protect thier money because God forbid the rest of us catch up. The issues won’t matter until we as a people demand change. Rasicism was excepted 50 years ago. Our parents and grandparents went through those times and haven’t forgot them, and are childern don’t think it effects them. Not cause we don’t try to teach them, but they think it was “so long ago”. Be easy people…stay in TROUBL

    P.S no spell check either

  10. It deeply saddens me that the only thing a person can get out of this post is to get sarcastic and whine about the language being used. This is not dictionary.com and quite frankly I don’t think that’s why anyone is here. Expressing real, raw, and personal opinions about the facts and issues of ones life’s is strictly up to that person and the life they have lived. Nobody is here using microscopic lenses to dissect the grammar and vocabulary being used. In all actuality, when speaking about issues that eat away at our hearts on a daily basis the wording has no relevance to the way one feels. The point is coming together using collective thinking to create change. Bringing up issues and sharing ideas to get a better understanding of the world we live in. As a human being, and an “educated” one if I may add, I find this type of behavior insulting and it is this exactly that prohibits us from becoming a whole. I wish all people had the ability to see the bigger picture instead of worrying about insignificant details which 5 years from now won’t even matter. On the other hand, who we end up electing for president will have a significant impact on our lives in the future. Until then, one can only continue to live their life being proactive and be the change they wish to see in the future..

WOW! Nick… buddy! Duuude… What’s your deal? For 8 years now our country has been lead by a man whoes grammar was no where it should have been to be labeled our “fearless leader”! LMAO– “fearless leader” YEAH RIGHT!!! Thank goodness his rein is finally over. Last I checked, this was a web site targeted to those who reside in the inner cities of this nation. Those who might not have the same education resources you might have had. So while youre sitting in your office sharpening your katana blade and ninja stars, you should get up from your cubical and grab one of them good styrofoam cups, and have a drink of water. It’ll do you better than that flat Mountain Due you have sitting on your desk, which is the drink of choice of most of our nations video game nerds which your online characteristics portray, re-up and quit being so bitter! GEEZ– Holla Back
