It’s a well-known fact that in America, despite years of trying to rectify the situation, men still get paid more than women for equal work. Many of us down here at the economic bottom have a vague picture of the men at the top as power-hungry corporate types who maintain the upper echelons of American business as a Rich Boys Club. We grumble about how the rich are getting richer and making the poor poorer, though we lack proof that this is the case. More »

I fear for my life and safety right now as a woman and as a minority! Within the last week or so… I’ve stumbled across some disturbing research about my demographic- not once but twice… this is in addition to the mainstream news that I am forced to digest. I can’t lie, I did it to myself, I was curious about the issues affecting minorities and women because that’s who I am … I wanted to do the research… And now I’m forced to handle the brutal truth! Throughout history women have been used as ponds to guarantee financial security as well as a higher status for themselves, their families, and in some cases, their countries. Taught to secure the highest bidder, women were called foolish when they considered love, sentiment or attraction in their marriage proposals. There were few options either swallow their emotions and enter a meaningless marriage or become outcasts and whores in society’s eyes… More »

Waiting impatiently for the monotonous meeting to end so I could get to my classroom and greet my students, my male boss responded to a comment made by our school coach who is also male. He said, “When working with a group of women, you have to expect these things. This is just the way they are.” What? How could he have said that? If it wasn’t for the women, our school would not be operating and it wouldn’t have the highly respectable reputation that it has… More »

In today’s modern world, do the flowers and candy still work to impress your partner? Or has romance changed?
I hear from guy friends that it’s hard to be romantic and not be considered corny by today’s independent woman.
Women have transformed their roles within society; from the multi-tasking housewife into the multi-tasking, wife, mother, mentor, CEO, lawyer or whatever. So have women’s perception of romance changed since our characters have evolved? More »

As men, we sometimes take women for granted. So in celebration of Women’s History Month, I want to share my thoughts on a woman that I looked up to growing up; a who’s woman superceded every expectation that I had in the world; a women “Sweeter than cotton candy, stronger than grandpa’s brandy.” More »

I’d like to take a moment to pose a question. What are the chances that the Republicans stoop as low as to force the double talk express into picking a “BUSHY-like” Condoleezza Rice to be it’s Vice President? Think about it for a minute. She’s black and last time I checked, a woman. Because of this, she could possibly offset the Obama machine, which has been plowing through Hill-Dog like… well, like Bill used to. More »

Recently, I attended a health policy conference and somewhere between the candidate positions on health care and Medicare/Medicaid, the abortion topic was presented; immediately… a level of tension grew in the room… More »
“The roadside Breathalyzer test is actually an excellent way of estimating the amount of alcohol consumed, even though 95 percent of the alcohol a person drinks is metabolized before the body excretes it. Only about 5 percent of the absorbed alcohol is eliminated unchanged, in the urine or through the lungs, but it is enough to result “alcohol breath”– and the proportion exhaled stays constant enough to give a very accurate estimate of how much alcohol is in the blood.” More »
