There seems to be a huge, eternal gap between thought and reality. When I’m broke, I think about robbing banks. When I haven’t had any in awhile, I think about sex. When a person kills someone, I think about unity. But, my thoughts don’t necessarily translate into reality. Descartes, a modern French philosopher, is known for the statement: “I think, therefore I am.” Really? Rapper, Lupe Fiasco says, “If you are what you say you are… then have no fear” Really? More »

People call me impatient. They might have a point in a certain kind of way, then again, maybe not. Patience, for a very large portion of the matter, revolves around Time. A lot of people go about their day-to-day lives believing in almost every instant being a promise. Think: How often do we speak to ourselves in the future? I’ll do this or that tomorrow. We postpone the present into a different dimension of space even when that space is not guaranteed. More »

Forgiveness is an essential part of being human. This essential part has two avenues. First, there is the person who has done wrong and needs forgiveness. By nature, human beings are fallible. Period. Yet, what is it about the human condition that prohibits us from admitting our nature? It strikes me as odd that we fully understand no one is perfect, that everyone is fallible; yet, when our fallibility is exposed, we deny it. More »

Sarah: “I don’t know.”

I think most, if not a huge majority, of people possess extravagant notions about their life. The question becomes: What does one do about them? Two options exist: a) Exert effort in trying to realize them b) Continuously hold those notions in thought. Those are the only two options, and that is it. More »

What is Self? I suppose the first answer on anyone’s mind is “me.” Most people consider themselves a Self. But, do most people know what that means? Because if one does not have a clue about the meaning of Self, how can one have confidence in it? How can one have confidence in something they don’t know? More »

Tar Kingdom. Where is it? You can take one of two routes: 1) Idealistic 2) Realistic. Ideally, Tar Kingdom is where, in common black vernacular, all the ills that plague black people don’t exist. To list the ills will eat up too much paper (and post space); and black people already know what they are. Realistically, Tar Kingdom is the place we reference in modern-day music, specifically hip-hop, urban literature, and social round-tables of discussions about what black people don’t have. The operative questions become: Is “kingdom” necessarily synonymous with “perfection?” More »

Mathematics: The shortest distance between two points is a straight line.
Does that apply to the idea of “From Nothing to Something?” I venture to say, “Every successful person I know or know of has went from Nothing to Something without a straight line.” Life is incompatible with the entire notion. Life contains too many variables. More »
