Between the Lines

Written by: Q

the-wire.jpgLast night, The Wire followed up its season premiere with an episode that is sure to bring casual fans back to seeing Baltimore in its reckless glory. With both feel good moments and throwbacks to season 1, this is definitely going to be a season to remember.

Whether it’s watching a crack head try to get his life back in order, or seeing the evolution of Marlo as the East Side kingpin, it was a great episode. There were shoot-outs, political maneuvering, and the return of Avon Barksdale.

Speaking of which, I would love to see what you guys think about Avon returning. An all-time favorite, Avon provided a twist to this final season. The writers did an excellent job of making us wonder what role Avon will continue to play, and we’re now left thinking that Marlo is the new Avon (pause). I’m wondering what you guys think about what is unfolding to be a fight to the end with the potential that the FBI will join in the crusade to bring Marlo down. COINTELPRO anyone?

How closely related is this to our real life stories and struggles?

Speak on it..

Boosy.. i know dudes that won’t watch The Wire based on the glorification that you discuss.. i kinda did that w/ Chappelle Show, and didn’t really try to watch the end of the Boondocks 1st season, because i thought Aaron went overboard.. then i changed.. i started to think about how this is really us.. as sad as it is.. this show is someone’s life.. like it or not.. i’m hoping that people will start using shows like this to make a change or difference in someone else’s life.. the most powerful moment of this season to me, was when dude was taken off the block to babysit.. and watching his reaction really hit home.. it’s real when dudes would rather put themselves in a position to die or go to jail, rather than to be bored alone at home.. call me wack, but i’ll take the boredom.. i def’ ain’t going to jail.. i’m too little for all of that.. my hair is too curly.. i ain’t no punk (i have the urge to fight everyday), but i’ll be a punk before i’m someone’s bitch.. i’m just sayin’..

Being the Duke & having seen about 5 of this season’s episodes, I can’t say too much.- Don’t want to ruin it for you all.
    A little anecdote.

Being “His bouginess” and nestled in the burbs, which sadly has very little black people, residents are inclined to learn about that “fascinating black culture”, through the only medium available BET cough-cough, i mean NET. What N stands needs not be said.

As it usually is for most blacks in the burbs/Jobs where there are little African Americans/today’s top non HBCU institutions- no disrespect to those who did go to HBCU’s”, we are left to defend and answer all questions on the black race- pretty wack if you ask me.

The wire which is now shown on NET, pisses me off.
“Duke Boosy, how come you don’t have cash or talk like the people in the wire” is a question i ‘m always asked. or,

“Damn son, i’m pushing birds like i seen on the wire, & i watch more BET than you- i’m blacker than you”- ha, i reply, “Try my skin color in the wrong hood and you’ll see how quickly u come running back.” is my usual answer.

This fascinating stupidity is what my ‘bougie self” has to deal with all day nestled in the IVY of the burbs.

I wish i could say that I’m happy about the show, but my response is FUCK IT, i’m tired of the best show ever on TV always putting black people in a bad light and guess where it gets syndicated but NEgra Haven, NET. so No thanks ” Avon”, let me see a show on TV depicting African Americans in a positive light and make that same” best show on TV status”.

BET has sold black people out, and now that it has more of a mass appeal and mainstream market,, it’s not even black owned, they throw a black woman as the president to quiet the naysayers.

Where are all the women fighting the distasteful videos, they should be talking about the black execs playing the shit. But hey, she’s(Bet’s President) “getting hers”

    Get yours “sister”.

But i will say this, NET started syndicating the wire, could it be the fact that so many of our youths involvement in “the game”. hmm or the fact that these kids might and are replicating what they see on TV in their daily transactions..Hmmm

I will admit tho as Q said, it does hit home, but the bougie in me can’t support the wire. Sorry folks, i’m off to lunch with Bill Cosby and Condi rice. hate, hate hate.
