Between the Lines

the-wire.jpgIs it me or has “The Wire” lost some zeal? Previous seasons had the streets buzzing. This season feels safe. It’s not surprising though. Once you start listening to the praise, you become self-conscious. Its kinda like when someone realizes you’re watching and all of a sudden they start acting shy.

Regardless, here’s an interesting column by Sudhir Venkatesh of the NY Times. Venkatesh, author of “Gang Leader for a Day,” dissects the show with a group of gangland buddies, asking “what do real thugs think of The Wire” You can catch up on the entire series here.

One more thing. We’re still working to deliver interviews with actors from the show. We’re interested in hearing what they think about this season? What everyone think about it so far?

i think the season has had its ups and downs.. since i vaguely remember the last episode, that says enough for me.. but at the same time, they have those moments where you just have to appreciate the talent that the cast has.. 2 episodes you saw Omar go into an ambush, and turn into Superman to escape.. that alone was enough for me for that episode.. it was that “anything is possible” moment or better yet, “y’all ain’t getting me”.. it was truly on some Wil E. Coyote stuff..

my biggest concern has actually come true, as i was weary about the media stuff, and that has taken up too much of my time.. i don’t need to see that stuff.. yea, we know from J.Blair about ppl making stuff up, but that’s not why i watch The Wire.. i need to see the corner action.. that stuff still happens.. peep the 126th corner in Harlem.. my dude was schooling me on that last night.. dude’s still working the corners.. slicing faces and stuff.. that’s real.. that’s what i like to see in The Wire..

i will say that the coming episodes look like they could deliver some heat, though..
