How Big is Your World

Written by: TROUBLMan

how-big-is-your-world.jpgIn 1961, when President John F. Kennedy announced the ambitious goal of sending an American to the Moon before the end of the decade, critics painted his dream as lunacy. But Kennedy knew something they didn’t. He understood that in order to achieve big you have to first think big. And more important, Kennedy knew he had to have the balls to spell out his dream for the public.

His brazen attitude, which inspired other to believe, threatened the powers that profited from people’s conservatism and ignorance. And that’s why they put holes in his head…

Even after we successfully accomplished a goal that at the time seemed far our, the think-big mentality that Kennedy had infects so few people (whether you believe the landing really occurred or not, its consequences are real in that people believe it happened). Instead, most are content accepting what society, the media, their parents and peers have already laid out for them, and settling in the assumption that things are just the way the are and that’s all they’re ever going to be.

Pay attention and you’ll realize the various ways in which this small-mindedness manifests everyday.

In my own life, I see how the illusions presented in rap music have fucked with the brains my peers…for example, way too many dime-bag hustlers be reciting rap lyrics as if they’re kingpins: “The real Noriega, he owe me a hundred favors, ” they say…

I THINK NOT.

First off, if your selling dime bags, you’re on the lowest level of the drug trade. You’re not a boss; you’re an employee, one who works in the mailroom. Secondly, realize the people that Manuel Noriega owes a hundred favors to are working to conceal that shit.

People, please stop eating scraps and acting like it’s Filet Mignon. That attitude is keeping us on earth and I’m trying to go to space.

So in the spirit of JFK and the think-big mentality that got America to the moon, I want to pose some questions inspired by a favorite song of mine. Maybe you’ve heard the song. It’s by the rapper Median and it’s called “How Big is Your World.” (Listen here)

FOLLOW…

• If you’ve invested more money into your sneaker collection than into your education ask yourself, how big is your world?

• If you’ve completed more video games than you’ve completed books, how big is your world?

• If you don’t have a passport; if you don’t have a library card; if you’ve never washed your own clothes, how big is your world?

• Homegirl, I see you got the Louis loafers with the bag to match, but realize real stunnas don’t spend two weeks pay on that bullshit, they get it for free. How big is your world?

• If your kids have Air Jordan’s, a Playstation, and cell phones but you don’t have at least one computer in the house. How big is your world?

• If you’re a parent of young children and don’t have their teachers’ home phone number, how big is your world?

• If you only have one black friend; if a white person has never been to your house; if you refer to all Asian people as Chinese, how big is your world?

• If you believe terrorists don’t exist and that every incident is a plot orchestrated by “the man”, how big is your world?

• If you really believe that earth is the only planet with life in a universe with of more than an estimated 100 billion–hold on let me repeat that– in a universe of more 100 billion galaxies, smack yourself and then ask your how big is your world.

The point of my rant is to encourage people to not accept the design that society has made for you. Most people act like society is bigger than the individuals who live in it. The people who make it to the moon understand that it is we, the people, who design society.

Big accomplishments start as small thoughts…

    Beautiful,
I know that we may not have ventured to the universe as much as we talk about it. But believe the people from other universes are way ahead of us and I’m sure they walk among us. You just can’t think of the universe without knowing we are not the only ones here. I keep thinking of the day we start blogging together. Maybe we are already doing that.

i def agree…blk people-nah all people….we definitely need to dream bigger and be motivated to accomplish those dreams…..

we have to stop being nobody’s…leave the comfort zone….venture into the the land of unfamiliar so that we can accomplish the dreams that the dream giver has given us- its from the book “The Dream Giver” by Bruce Wilkinson- check it out!!

Reaching for the stars…or in other words, space is the best thing for all people in this world. We need to motivate and encourage our peers to come with us. We are going and we are all willing to have you come along…come with us…For me Education is my way out. I do not have many skills that can bring me up and out…so going IVY was my best bet. I encourage people to find what they are best at and stick to it.

THINK BIG. GODZILLA (shots to Yukmouth, Oakland’s finest). Troublman told me one day, “People have to look from the top down.” I agree. Place your head in the sky. The view is better.

Speak on it TROUBLMAN!!!! Sorry I’m all super late with my reply, but better late than never right? I love this piece and what it represesnts! Society is very small minded, I don’t want to get too deep for yall but we have to cease believing in visible money as our supply and our support. The current view of our world is simply an outpicturing of beliefs. I believed in the power of money, therefore I surrendered my God-given power and authority to an objectified belief. I believed in the possibility of lack, thus causing a separation in consciousness from the Source of my supply. I believed in mortal man and carnal conditions, and through this faith gave man and conditions power over me. I believed in the mortal illusion created by the collective consciousness of error thoughts, and in doing so, I have limited the Unlimited.

((….I warned you I could go deep wit it……..lol))

  10. Wow malia I respect the swag I apreciate your level of conciousness I had reseved myself from commenting on this post because I didnt want to sound too esoteric or crazy but the fact that you can believe and understand what that is shows you that you can believe that your beliefs dont limit you. The possiblities are endless I work hard everyday so that when the time comes I get it right. Dont stop believing!!!

I’m glad you could feel me Ronnie…I was afraid I was getting a little too philosophical with it. It’s just a test of the boundaries put in place, we need to stretch our beliefs and know that if we can see it, we can be it!

    Malia,

Nothing wrong with philosophy. I am one of the very few who still believe in it. The practice of thought and critical thinking doesn’t get outdated.

It seems as if everyone feels the same about thinking big, discovering the unknown, tapping into whatever “Secret” there is. (Don’t get that book. The secret is they trying to make money.) Everyday you wake up, keep these thoughts at the forefront and your body will move behind it. Action is a manifestation of thought. We all know this.
