Rocket’s Red Glare

red-glare.jpgIf any of you caught a glimpse of the Roger Clemens press conference after his interview on 60 minutes, you would’ve seen a noticeably rattled Clemens facing the press. Everyone deserves the presumption of innocence before guilt, but as someone who has been around liars all his life, “we don’t believe you, you need more people.”

He showed frustration, which is natural if he’s telling the truth. What isn’t natural though was the way he bought time, dodged questions, used anger, used humor and attempted to create softer moments/sympathy, such as when he started off the proceedings by announcing, he was “sorry that he couldn’t make it to his former coach’s son’s funeral because he had to be here taking care of this.”

According to Clemens, the alleged steroid shots were nothing more than lidacane (pain killer) and B-12(vitamin). As a former athlete, I can vouch that it is certainly plausible. However, what’s fishy is that professional teams have doctors on staff that do those types of things.

Confronted with this fact, Clemens defended himself by claiming he believed McNamee was licensed to administer the shots.

Brian McNamee is a physical trainer, you know like the kind that work at Bally’s. Unless I’m missing something they don’t normally shoot us up with pain killers and vitamins. Do they? If so, I need to go back to gym because I’m getting a cold.

It just doesn’t add up. His best friend and fellow teammate Andy Petitte admitted to using HGH (human growth hormone). McNamee said he injected steroids into both Clemens and Petite and they both trained with, you guessed it, Brian McNamee. HMMM.

Why would he tell the truth about one man and lie on the other? Even pressure from the FEDS doesn’t make you lie like that.

By the way, one sign of a good liar is when he or she raises the ante, hoping that you won’t call their bluff. It’s a good move but it can blow up in your face. Yet, this is exactly what Clemens has done by filing a defamation lawsuit against McNamee. McNamee returned the gesture by filing his own defamation lawsuit. HMMM.

Still, everyone is giving the benefit of the doubt to arguably the games best pitcher. Something that “Bury Bonds” was not given. Why? Both of them played during the steroid era. HMMM…

Even though it might not be as impressive as bonds hitting countless homeruns in McCauvey Cove, Clemens throwing fireballs in the mid 90 mph range is still an impressive feat.

Let just wait and see what happens. By the way, I do believe Bonds took steroids. Just like the rest of Major League Baseball.

First off, I don’t agree with your comment about Clemens getting the benefit of the doubt unlike Bonds, and implying that it is probably a race issue. I think they are both guilty and I think the majority of the masses have the same view. From all the reports that I have read and seen, everyone is skepitical on anything that comes out of Clemens mouth, as they should be. I think like Bonds, no matter what comes out of all this media mess, both athletes careers will be forever tainted.

Since this story is somewhat still fresh it doesn’t seem to be as bad as the Bonds story. If Clemens continues to “play victim” like Bonds has for years than I see him getting all the bad publicity he deserves.

I do agree with you when you talk about Clemens moving all his chips in and hoping no one will call his bluff. Everything that has come out of his party seems to be staged or just unnatural. It will be interesting to see if he sticks to this lawsuit for the long haul or if its just something to temporarely take the heat off him.

I think if there is one thing that athletes should learn from the Bonds and Clemens case it is to come clean and be honest about their wrong doings. No one talks about Petitte, Roberts, or anybody else that came out and admitted to trying it for whatever reasons. I know that they are not household names like Clemens and Bonds, but they owned up to it and now its over. Bonds and Clemens are taking the Pete Rose stance and want everyone to view them as the victims, and we saw how well that worked for him.

Regardless of the matter, the media and majority of America will put the Clemens ordeal behind them for the simple fact that this is not the real story that they are looking for. We all know that Bonds is the one of interest. Watch what happens the moment, Media gets a hold of enough ammunition on Bonds they will not stop until they are able to destroy everything he has accomplished, wether he cheated or not. To RJ the reason why the Clemens story isn’t as bad as the Bonds story, is because Bonds was on the verge of breaking a record, that America did not want broken, well at least not by Bonds that is.

Clemens is wasting his time, the sooner he admits to taking HGH, the sooner it will be all over. Thats just how it works out for some people, and we know who those some people are.

My comment is simple and direct. I’m sick of all the attacks on these players…(I guess they deserve the money they make getting pimped, prostituted and being the fall guy or woman)…What about the execs, the individuals who run this league? They all were very aware of these players using these “drugs”. I believe they need to be on trial also here. However, we are so focused on these players and not focusing on the bigger picture here–Its about the revenue and the execs are just sitting back waiting for a “fall guy”. They don’t care about the players and their careers.

  4. Bond’s volatile relationship with the media contributes to the way they portray him. When Mark McGwire broke the single season home run record there were allegations of steroid use but they quickly faded. FOr a long time, Bonds been the nigga they love to hate.

Look, I agree with you in some respects RJ however, if you think that they (the media and the fans) will be as harsh as they were on Bonds you’re crazy. I can guarantee that won’t be the case. Time will prove that. I do suspect that race is an issue with the demise of Barry Bonds just as much as Barry Bonds is an issue with the demise of Barry Bonds.

These players who took steroids deserve most of the blame but not all of it because the money grubbing owners encourage this behavior by turning the other way when they could have took action. What baseball needs is to stop shooting themselves in the foot. They have a new policy and they enforce it. What they need to do now is to move forward. Some of these allegations are 10 years old.

I agree with you TROUBLdMami. These Execs should be catching more heat than what they are currently getting. I would say for beginners lets start fining them, which isn’t much but its a start. The only way you can hurt the wealthy, is in the their pocket books.

I also agree with troublmami. They knew what was going on all along.
After they let Bonds go and acted like he could no longer represent the league because he some how made them look bad. Give me a brake. Those assholes wanted to make money and I’m not saying that there is no honesty in sports. I’m sure there is a lot of good people. But an old saying is. When you know something is wrong and you keep your mouth shut. You are just as wrong and became a part of the problem and not the solution. I don’t blame the Bonds, Clemens or others that are really fall guys for an industry that has known all along and have taken every cent that these guys have made for them. If the Giants fill so bad about all of this, than give all the money they made from him back to people who paid to go to the game and have support these organizations forever.

    I don’t know a thing about sports players unless they’re FINNNNNNEEEE!!!! LOL……..

The Times Union reports that singer Mary J. Blige, music producer Timbaland and author/actor/ producer Tyler Perry were also mentioned among numerous people who may have used or received prescribed shipments of steroids and injectable human growth hormone (HGH) in recent years. So I’m guessing they use it as an anti-aging drug. (sorry to get off subject for a sec….I’ll reel myself back in…….)

So my question is: Is it just a crime if pro athletes use it for enhancement?

When Olympic gold medalist Marion Jones got arrested I was really saddened and I felt that she cheated other women who poured their sweat and tears out on that track. I felt jipped so I know the other competitors must have been doubly pissed! She short changed other women from multi-million dollar endorsements and she represented the United States as a fraud.

But if they are already pro-athletes and getting paid for our entertainment, I really don’t know what the big deal is. Am I wrong?

  10. Q.

    *on my conspiracy ish*

right now i’m feeling like they are trying to find ways to bring us down.. it’s crazy.. are we too hot right now? too popular? i don’t get it.. HGH is not an illegal drug (at least not that i know of).. shoot, we’re cloning now.. we’re allowing men to turn into women and women to turn into men.. those are serious drugs they are taking.. shoot, i still feel that it’s crazy.. i still feel that in 20 years, we’ll have mutants.. you can’t do drug studies on living people, but that’s what we’re doing.. but that’s alright, cuz that’s all white.. yeah, i stole that from a comedian.. but seriously, how do we know we aren’t going to be looking like I Am Legend in a few years from these sex altering drugs?

but back to this new entertainment onslaught.. the Governor of Cali admits to taking steroids.. or at least he did.. that’s his personal preference as he was not breaking a rule.. i understand it in a sporting situation, but aside from that, if you want to grow 8 nipples, do you.. 50 wants to really live out the whole Gorilla Unit thing, let him.. Tyler Perry? no comment.. Mary J? if that’s a fountain of youth for her talent and songs that change people’s live in an inspirational manner, let me inject her! Timbo? what a shock.. but again, who cares? if i can get more beats outta that dude, i’ll hire someone to inject him..

the thing about it, is that if you go to your local gym, you see it full of men that are obviously on something.. they wear suits and ties during the day.. again, i don’t care.. let them shrivel up.. makes the average size go down.. makes me next in line for the new porno coming out..

    who cares?
