All in the Family

Written by: Twist 2 D.V.S

whats-next.jpgExcuse me if I’m happy as hell to see our latest, most intolerable & inarticulate edition to the presidency kick rocks. The Cartier can’t sweep by fast enough, ya know? I’m sure we all have our reasons, at this point, to feel the same… Even those who initially supported the bumbling-baby-brat of the Bush clan. However, I’m sorry to inform some of y’all: this is not the end.

Maybe you haven’t noticed the bush family involvement in government & overall presidential influence since the Reagan administration, but look again. The invisible & ultimately non-existent “war on drugs” has been orchestrated by America’s own hick version of Pablo Escobar: big daddy George bush, sr.

What about Clinton, you ask? That’s like suggesting that the president is anything more than a front man flunky, in the first place. Do you think their post-administration friendship is any coincidence? Regardless of any campaign promises, the ball kept rolling. Bush merely passed the torch to someone more appeasing to public opinion. But what really changed? Not to mention the long running relations between Hillary’s family, who are extremely wealthy political lobbyists, and the Bush’s. No matter who wins the 2008 election…They’re little more than the next driver of a vehicle long set on autopilot.

Why vote? Because there’s still strength in numbers. We can change the world if we don’t submit to intimidation. These old muthafuckers are one foot in the grave! If we all stand up now, we can put a new generation of free thinkers in office. Then maybe we can recapture the myth of America: freedom for all. Ya know, that plan to thrive through progressive equality? Well some of us bought into it… Now it’s time to collect.

We can’t change the presidents until we change those who support him/her. That means paying attention to city, state & federal issues and elections. If you don’t care, then don’t bitch about your rights! We protect & nurture what we care about. If we want the dream of freedom to mature from its infancy… Then we’ve got to raise it. Even if we raise hell with it.

LOL!!!!! Bomb article!!!!! It’s about dang time he kicked rocks!!!! Everybody has an opinion but then they don’t let their voices be heard when it’s voting time. As hard as we fought to get that right, it seems almost a slap in the face to our forefathers when we don’t use it!!!!

My friend (anonymous) seems to have fallen into the same trap that too many folks have fallen victim to over the years regarding the Voting Rights Act.

By the way, have you told people why part of their voting rights (the black ones off course) is going to expire in 2007( e are still talking about this TODAY!)

Let’s look at the claim in the form I’ve most often seen it, as archived at Snopes.com, that great site for debunking or confirming urban legends.

As everyone should be aware, in 1965, President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Voters Rights Act. This was created to allow Blacks the right to vote.
In 1982, President Ronald Reagan signed an amendment to extend this right for an additional twenty-five years. You guessed it . . . In 2007 (ten years from now), Congress will decide whether or not Blacks should retain the right to vote. In order for this to be passed, thirty-eight states will have to approve an extension. For me, as well as many others, this was the first time that we had heard this — thus, bringing concern to all of us! What many Blacks before us fought and even died for as well as the milestones that we, as Blacks have achieved, this can be taken away from us . . . AGAIN!

If this issue has taken you by surprise as well, I encourage YOU to contact your Congressperson, alderperson, senator — anyone in government, that you put your vote behind and ask them what are they doing to — firstly, to get the extension and furthermore, make our right to vote a LAW. This has to become a law in order for our right to vote to no longer be up for discussion, review and/or evaluation. (Remember: Blacks are the only group of people who require permission under the United States Constitution to vote!)

As Black people, we cannot “drop the ball” on this one! We have come too far to be forced to take such a large step back. So, please let’s push on and forward to continue to build the momentum towards gaining equality. Please pass this on to others, as I am sure that many more individuals are not aware of this.

Hopefully all this is going change with the new election. Bothers and Sisters have never had the opportunity to vote in a President of Color. Obamas’ presidential candidacy has effected us as a community, I see it here in Chicago and I’ve also seen how blogging has changed the political landscape…..maybe this is the push we needed to stand up and be counted. Not taking anything away from the Great Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Color will play a role and dependeing on how many black people vote will definitely have an impact, but the act of picking the next president will most likely be a statement of America’s view of Iraq.

  6. We’re going collect info on the Voting Rights so that people can become more knowledgable about the issue an post it on the site. If anyone has suggestion on good references post them in this comment section.

The blogoshpere has a lot of power to shed light on these issues. What many people dont realize is that most people of color aren’t hip to blogs yet. I think 2008 will be the tipping point.

  7. I will pass this on. PEOPLE DON’T VOTE YOUR PARTY, VOTE YOUR HEART!. Vote for the person you feel will lead this country in a new and inspiring direction. For the future of our children vote.

TROUBLMAN - Yes, the “blogosphere” is very powerful indeed!!! And you know, I never really thought about it but I guess you’re right…..alot of my friends aren’t big on blogging unless it’s on MySpace ((which is not the best source of information))…..They read my blogs though…*wink* I also plug http://www.troublmedia.com on my page and I see a few familiar commenters from there up in this piece…. *waving to my friends*

Check out this site http://www.library.vanderbilt.edu/romans/pubpol.html Public Policy Issues and Groups to get an idea just how far it can really go!

A MOM - I am with you 100% on that one sis!

    Everyone vote!
And don’t just vote for who you think will win, or who you think needs to win. Vote for who you think represents you best. I know it’s a crazy idea, but with a little research you may actually find that someone does stand for the same things as you do, and you can vote for them instead of voting for the lesser of evils. Voting makes a difference, so do it your way!!!
