Bury Bonds
this has been messing with me for a day or so.. i can’t help it.. ever since last night, it’s been all over tv.. even President Bush took time to put out a statement about this.. all for a man, assumed to have cheated baseball by using performance enhancing drugs.. the gov’t felt the need to indict Barry Bonds on the grounds of him allegedly lying about taking said drugs while under oath.. it was a few more details, but that’s the gist of it.
the thing about this, is that it has caught everyone off-guard.. why now, and not before?? over 2 years, and now you indict him? this is akin to cops catching some dude stealing $10,000 from a store, but just waiting and chilling for 2 years before coming back and tapping him on the shoulder on some “excuse me, i was watching you when you stole that money, but i was too lazy to run after you then, but i’m arresting you now”.. i couldn’t figure it out.. Bonds lawyer asked out loud what do they have now that they didn’t last year? nothing new has come to light..
so then i started thinking.. what IS different? hmm.. a year ago he was pretty much injured.. nothing exciting going on, but the home run chase was coming closer.. this year? he’s pretty much in good shape and playing for a majority of the season.. he would more than likely break the home run chase.. hmm..
the home run chase.. that’s what’s different..
this past year, he made A LOT of money for A LOT of people.. major league baseball benefitted the most, as it was pretty much a home run tour, where the stands were packed to witness greatness and history being made.. it was all over tv.. ESPN had cut-ins for like 3 weeks straight with his at-bats.. money was being made.. more than ever.. it’s no wonder A-Rod has a clause in this new contract that will get him close to $50 million in incentives if he breaks the home run record as a Yankee.. the Yankees aren’t stupid.. the 1 thing they know how to do, is make money.. if they are giving him $50 million, you know they think they will get $500 million off of him..
yea, i might be a conspiracy theorist on this, but i can’t help it.. this whole thing is just too random for me.. now that Bonds is not under contract, and he already broke the record, he’s not as marketable or profitable.. they can’t make any more money off of him, so they are taking him down and burying him..
i promise that i wasn’t watching Half Baked as i wrote this!

This seems random to you because you obviously have no criminal justice or law background (which is necessary for FULLY understanding what you’re talking about). The word you were looking for in your severely limited response is perjury. Proving perjury (beyond a reasonable doubt. That means being 95% sure) is one of the most difficult tasks in the courtroom. In order to prove perjury, all the facts must be gathered, witness statements must be verified, double and triple checked, and sometimes this takes quite a while. So while it might seem that they’re making a special case for a “black superstar”, really, all that’s happening is some good old fashion “due diligence”. If Barry was half as diligent with his training and career as the US Government is with there case against him, perhaps he wouldn’t be in this truly embarrassing situation. The Federal Government isn’t interested in Barry Bonds’ money or making money off him-whatever the fuck that means???!?!; they’re interested in the LAW!!! It is ILLEGAL to take performance enhancing drugs. And to ME it should be even more illegal to build fame and a career off CHEATING!!!!! Barry Bonds is a cheater, plain and simple. His record should be stripped and he should be banned from baseball FOR LIFE!!! The FEDs don’t risk putting their record and reputation on the line for some half concocted bullshit, be sure that if they’re going after Barry, they have more then enough dirt on him to finish the job, AND THEN SOME. The FEDs don’t start shit they can’t finish. Barry has tainted America’s past time forever, this period in baseball’s history will forever be known as the Steroid Era. And I’m not saying that it’s only Barry, because it’s not, however, Barry Bonds was an Icon, who for a while represented all the BEST thing’s in baseball, and kids loved him and looked up to him for it. But Barry was tempted by the “short path” and will pay the ultimate price for it. An example must be made of professionals who choose this path, whether it be Barry Bonds or Marion Jones. He should have told the truth when he was caught, but instead he dug himself a hole and now faces up to 30 years in prison. Many people think the government is coming down to hard on him, however, when you cheat and then LIE (that’s the perjury) about cheating to Congress without “batting” an eyelash, your asking for it, and the US Government will always be happy to give it to you!!! He deserves all 30 years!!!

Maybe Bonds did something he should not have done. Well guess what if he has to do time than maybe some of our governments people should do time. “Weapons of mass destruction” Stop casting stones and take a look in the mirror. What have you done lately? If everything was fair in our wonderful country I’d say so be it, I’m not saying he should not be punish, but you sound like a very angry person with a Barry Bonds chip on your shoulder. So you know a little about the government. What does that make you. Just a person with an opinion just like the writer. Maybe you should put some of your anger into making some changes in the sports industry. This stuff has been in sports for a long long time. I’m sure you know that to. Children in highschools and colleges who have to compete in all sports and are having Steroids push on them. As a parent I watch, listen, and talk to my children. I’m not trying to be hurtful and maybe I don’t know the government like you do, but if everyone was being punished for all the mess that goes on in this country. Well! you know what I’m saying. I also think that Troubl is a good start for change. I hope to talk to you again soon.

It is true that something has occurred in the life of the infamous Barry Bonds. He obviously was involved with something that has drawn lots of attention to him. Not only is he one of the greatest hitters in baseball, he is also one of the most hated players in baseball. Not just by fans or sports writers, but his own peers. The guy probably needed to take a PR class and didn’t. So, let’s not make a snap judgment about the situation. I am a baseball player and I have played professionally and plan to continue my career. As a child I grew up a fan of the San Francisco Giants and yes, Barry Bonds has been my favorite player since I could remember. Although, we don’t like to admit it, we know he did something to get stronger. But, let’s not forget that a large portion of the league did too. That still doesn’t make substance abuse right. But what I am trying to say is, that the destruction of Barry Bonds and his character isn’t going to make things better. He isn’t a terrible person. He used a substance to make himself better. He hasn’t murdered anyone. He isn’t abusing children. He is entertaining the world. He has put on a great show. To me, he has more redeeming qualities that compensate any accusation of substance abuse. The game is better because of Barry Bonds and don’t be fooled that it isn’t.

Yes under oath, Barry Bonds has under his own will giving the courts false statements about an act that he has committed. And yes he has clearly broken a criminal law. Do I think that he deserves to be punished? Yes I do, But I don’t know If I could go to the extreme o that he should be punished for thirty years, and more importantly do not think it deserves all the attention that the issue is receiving. I feel that there are far more important issues that the media can attack than the issue of substance abuse with Barry Bonds. Now don’t get me wrong I feel strongly about the Criminal Justice system. But feel as though issue that is redundant like: Brittany Spears and her children, or Michael Vick and his dogs. I just feel that there are far more important issues to deal with and by the media putting search importance on these issues, It brainwashes people to think that these are the only things that are going on in the world today!

the media will continue to show what they want us all to see. and as long as we’re taking interest in them, the world of sports and entertainment will never disappear from our television channels.
i can’t help but wonder, if all of humanity suddenly stops being interested in “hollywood” and the world of sports, will the media ever stop showing the likes of britney spears and sports “heroes” like barry bonds and michael vick and instead show us what truly matters? no more homeruns and touchdowns, just mass murder and extreme poverty. hmmm…i don’t think so.

Maybe it took all these years because they have a weak ass case but have to bring something after spending all that money [see Bill Clinton]… baseball really didn’t press earlier because dude was making them a gang of money hitting home runs at a time when interest in baseball was waning… baseball just announced they made just over $6 BILLION last year – I guess they’ve recovered. George Mitchell’s report from his steroid investigation is due to come out soon… they probably wanted to crucify this dude before the names of their heroes start to drop. Bottom line, the thing BB is most guilty of is being an asshole… apparently he’s just not an easy guy to get along with. I ain’t mad that he doesn’t coon for the sportswriters but dude has made his share of enemies on and off the field. He made a convenient, unsympathetic figure for them to hang this whole thing on [after they cashed in] and he made it kinda easy for them to demonize him [sorta like Saddam after the Iran/Iraq war]. Now they can make it look like they “cleaned up” the game by making an example of him, meanwhile Rafeal Palmeiro lied to congress on TV and nothing. Q. your theory is dead on – they ignored the fact that Mark McGwire looked like Popeye and Sammy Sosa looked like a Dominican Bluto in 1998 when it put butts in the seats… Barry took it even farther but once the cash cow was no longer necessary they chopped it into hamburger.
Funny how some cats think because the feds bring a case you are definitely guilty and they always win - naive, msiguided. BTW, pick a side, if cheating and lying and the other deadly sins these dudes commited are unforgiveable then they are unforgiveable for EVERYBODY… no if, ands or buts [or icons]. No worries about stripping records because you will need to rip up the entire book of records during this period not just pull out certain pages - wake up, it was your heroes too.
Oh, and please clarify, ONEWAY, are they going after him for lying or drugs? Your points got jumbled amongst all that bullshit.

You are right on it. Why don’t we look at the record books and go back on some of our “Heroes.”Most of the book would be gone. I was told that some of the pitchers that are in the record books cheated. I’m not all up on sports, but come on. “Do it to one do it to all.” I’m also sure that all the bets that big people (coaches) etc. made had a lot to do with cheating. Barry Bonds is not liked because of the press making him look like this untouchable person who wouldn’t give them what they wanted. They don’t know him and that is why. If you give them what they want. They love ya.
