The Line
In an effort to increase its ranks, the United States Border Patrol is working to recruit more black Border Patrol agents. Despite being the largest federal law enforcement agency with more than 16,o00 agents, blacks make up only 1 percent.
Question: Is an increase in black Border Patrol agents a good thing because it provides jobs? Or will the efforts work to aggravate the existing conflict between blacks and Mexicans in this country?

I really can’t say on this one. My co-worker is in the process to become an agent. My supervisor can’t wait for her to leave. Truth be told. They won’t need any other agents after her. She will talk all those illegals to death and they will run back across the border.

Black residents (with no gang ties at all) are being terrorized an effort to force them out of neighborhood now perceived as Latino. One African American resident was murdered by Latino gang members as he looked for a parking space near his Highland Park home. In another case, a woman was knocked off her bicycle and her husband was threatened with a box cutter by a Latino gang member who said, “You niggers have been here long enough.” So how do you think they’re going to feel when they have niggers patroling the border keeping THEIR PEOPLE out???????
Much of the hostility has to do with the competition for blue-collar jobs in a tight labor market, so how do you think they’ll feel seeing blacks filling those positions?
It will definitely aggravate the tension that’s already very strong between the two races. Migrants from Mexico will definitely be carrying the baggage of racism with them when they reach the wall.

I posed this question because it’s really a serious concern of mine. The social design architects, working behind the scene are very knowledgeable on how to create an environment where the poor police the poorer. Yeah, black America needs jobs, but I’m certain this will have a negative on the relationship between blacks and Mexicans. conspiracy theory my ass, they are specifically targeting blacks because according to the article, the agency wants the number of black agents to be more reflective of the percentage of black in America. Wow! That a first… The government is holding itself accountable when it comes to affirmative action? This shit is hard to believe.
Think about the stories black Border Patrol agents will have, arresting mexican immigrant. They’re certain to fuel the stereotypes that already exist. I can already imagine the stories new agents will bring back to their communities.: “I arrested a pack of Mexicans that were so dirty…” or, “they can’t speak english…” or, “there were 100 of them packed in one car…”
The criteria for recruitment should include spanish speaking citizens of the U.S. But no, instead they’d rather recruit blacks and teach them spanish. Can’t a brotha get a good spanish lesson in school? Where are the efforts to teach blacks spanish in that setting?
Call me a conspiracy theorist all you want, but I understand the minds of the social design architects in this country. And you best believe their most important task right now is figuring out how to regulate the flow of Mexican traffic into this country.

That’s understandable and I have seen immigration at work in Miami as well as here in Baltimore, One morning a had a chance to witness a round up of 40 illegal immigrants whom were working for a car wash business. The officers were of many nationalities. What’s sad about these situations is that, these people come here to work, and they work hard at it. They set up homes the American way, they buy into the American dreams just like all other nationalities yet they are kicked out just as fast. Leaving children and wives here to go it alone. America wants their money and believe me the economy gets it back because they cater to Latinos. Check out the commercials, some of them don’t have blacks in them because they have been replaced by Latinos. So who is this country fooling. The Latino Americano is growing fast and it has been for the past 20 years. Let them get a slice of the pie. My question is why do they strive so hard to keep Mexicans out of this country, yet let all other countries come in and set up base?

I think Mexicans should have just as much access to the American dream as anyone else. Mexicans work hard. My issue is not with Mexicans it’s with the government. I haven’t heard of any efforts to increase the number of black teachers. I haven’t heard of any efforts to increase the number of black politicians. But what I do see are police departments in the hood looking to recruit more police. And I see the army looking to enlist more soldiers. That’s my gripe.

Well it’s sad to say but I am glad that I am not living near the border or in Texas/California because there has not been any racial issues between the Blacks & Latinos here in Maryland so far.

It should not matter who does the patrol, if Asians were on patrol would it effect the relationship between Asians & Blacks, hell no, a job is a job and it has to be carried out. The Mexicans that cross the borders known for years that it’s against the law so it should not matter who reprimend them.

I agree that it should not matter who is doing the patrolling but I live in Cali and the racial tension between blacks and latinos is reaching epic proportions. I do see the need to increase the number of blacks doing patrols because blacks have unexplicable been under represented in the market. California has in some ways fueled the fire between blacks and latinos with special accommodations such as forewarning latino communities when and where check points are going to be so they can avoid the area when operating a vehicle without a license. It is the California state law that requires that you must be a licensed driver to operate a vehicle so why were they allowed to avoid the area instead of having their vehicles towed away like so many others? This is just an example of when the racial tension grew for a brief stint of time. I hope proper training and protection is provided for any blacks patrolling as necessary. Otherwise I see the situation spiralling out of control.

Many people of power in the U.S. government have a large financial stake in the security of America’s undocumented population. Cheap labor is the name of the game. This is why they’re allowed to drive without a license. This is why their forewarned. The problem occurs when their are too many undocumented immigrants and they gain political power. Since the 2000 census America realized the trend that was occurring. That’s why the number of agents has nearly doubled since that time. h
I can hear what’s going on in the powers that be minds as we speak: “let enough of them in so that we can benefit from cheap labor, but once it seems like they’re reaching a critical mass let’s build a wall and hire black people to police it.”
Realize if I’m thinking it, someone is already working to make it real.
Social design is real…

I agree with you both, a job is a job, but it’s the dynamics behind it that gets me. It all seems so contrived as you say with the forewarnings, and the initial underrepresentation of Blacks and now all of sudden they are ramping up! It’s almost purposely trying to aggravate an already hostile situation.

Exactly! Them spotlighting an already intense situation only serves to forewarn the latino community to get ready. Too much attention has been placed on this subject only resulting in flaming the fires.

My original thought was xenophobia, but with the technology and education requirements tightening the job market, employment competition is a real concern, we had riots here in 1919 between Blacks and whites, there is always hostility when employment is tight even between races, boarder patrol is employment, I think the call for Blacks is suspect, but jobs are needed; hopefully seasoned supervisors will be on hand.

I really don’t know anything about this right here. But I don’t doubt that its true. When I was in Miami last summer, I could feel the racial tention between blacks and Latinos. I don’t live in a community that is heavily populated with Latinos. I prefer not to be in a community with them. Call me racist, but that’s the way I feel.

TROUBLMan reply on June 23, 2008 1:58 pm:
Why do you feel that way? What type of people live in your community?

Torrie reply on June 24, 2008 3:16 pm:
In the community, I lived in had many spanish people living together is one house meaning about 10 or more in the house and in the backyards you would see rolls and rolls of trailor’s or illegal additional made on there houses. The black community is already hurting if it is the old middle class neighbors which are no longer, due to many spanish people moving from the los angeles areas to the valley. Due to the home prices being a little lower then the city. So, when the families came over and for thoses that didn’t work or too young it created more gang violence and tension. Don’t get me wrong not all spanish people to me are bad, I had a black experience and am choosing not to return. For me it’s like moving right next door to the KKK.

Why do black Americans direct their racism toward Mexicans. When we do this, we’re perpetuating the systems that keep us behind… Y’all should explore what I’m saying.

I agree that a job is a job. What concerns me is the percentage of minorities and why is it an issue about hiring blacks. Will it make a difference. If there is a problem with blacks and latinos than what difference does it make. Our problems started sometime ago and we as minorities should be ashamed that as the world trys to destroy us we turn on each other.

I would suspect the reason why only one percent of Blacks apply for or get hired as Border Guards is geographic; no many educated Blacks live that fart south, their ancestors all migrated north and One out of nine Blacks have a criminal record which excudes them from the application process.

I understand where you’re coming from, but what’s a brother to do when he’s offered a good paying job w/ benefits? The cost of living is soooo high, especially in California it’s like dangling candy in front of a baby.

I agree. What’s a brother to do is exactly the question? Sad thing about it that’s the conflict with America’s makeup. We’re channeled into situations where we have to make short term decisions that may negatively affect us in the long run.

I see it as a positive, period. More Blacks in law enforcement is only a positive. As far as there being a conflict between Blacks and Mexicans, once you are outside the gang community, there isn’t one.

Q.
this joint is a set-up if i haven’t seen one.. i was reading this while out of the country, and i was like “hell nah”.. first, it pays peanuts with a promise that “some jobs” earn over $70,000 after 3 years.. the chances that we survive 3 years is slim to none.. it’s like social security all over again..
but for anyone thinking about doing this, are you ready to fight against someone with a rock? these are ppl trying to flee a VERY bad situation, and are willing to give up their lives to make it happen.. the chances of stopping 1 is good, but an army of them?? every 3 minutes?? this is on some Civil War stuff.. Glory.. putting us on the front lines yet again, cuz when they were on the front lines, they were getting that ass handed to them.. shit, Mexicans fight to the death.. check the boxers.. they will get knocked out, and rise up and keep fighting.. that’s a battle you can’t win.. all for them to come and sell some oranges.. those, my friends, are not individuals you want to step in front of..
and like Malia said, the gangs are sick.. nah, even for $200,000 i ain’t accepting that job..

Laron-I don’t agree with you when you say that outside the gang community that there is not a conflict between Blacks and Mexicans.
I personally have no problems with Mexiacans, some of my closest friends are mexican. I believe that we are the same people. but from different places.
Black people eat gumbo,- Mexicans eat menudo ( we put hot sauce on both)
Black people eat chitterlings (Chit-lins) Mexican people eat threepas ( Excuse my spelling) But no difference except the spelling. It’s still intestine, and stinks…
We have been brainwashed as minorities, therefore we are considered to be the lowest of low. When you have two groups who are considered to be at the bottom, of course they are going to fight to move up in rank. So I feel that there will always be indirect competition with each other, which creates a problem… The media i think is most to blame…
