Drivin’ Me Wild Pt. 4

Written by: Rob Mania

Rudolf Diesel, inventor of the diesel engine, imagined that his engine would run on vegetable oil. Henry Ford experimented with soybeans and other crops, and imagined that one day, he would grow automobiles from the soil. But, as much as these innovators imagined independence for the average American, other innovators foresaw dependence.

Early oil barons such as Rockefeller (Standard Oil) and Rothschild (Shell) kept their prices low until they were sure that there was no competition. They methodically bought up railroads and dismantled them. While selling the notion that being independent meant having private transportation, they manufactured the public’s dependent on oil. Entering the oil industry became too costly, and the oil barons stifled competition by buying patents for alternative fuels and sitting on them. Then, in the 1970s, they raised the prices.

Fast forward thirty years. So, with demand up, few alternatives in sight, and three decades of inaction behind us, what more logical choice for the oil companies than to make sure the price goes up, and make sure they get their cut? It was a plan initiated by barons who understood these future circumstances. Why? So, their kids’…kids’… kids’… kids’…kids’…kids’…kids’ would profit.

  1. I agree. It’s all about greed. Bush is part of that greed and he and his partners are trying to get all they can before it catches up with them.

  2. Look,

They did act upon some shady thoughts, but then again, the thoughts were ingenius. A bit funny too. They sat in their offices figuring out a way to get rich and stay rich. I need to get on that hype. Unfortunately, their methods were (and still are) affecting us. Man…I tell you.

That’s how you get and keep old money? Scheme.

  3. When rappers talk about long money, I laugh. What are you doing to ensure that your “kids’…kids’… kids’… kids’…kids’…kids’…kids’” profit. Buying a Bentley is not long money. What businesses are yo building? And I’m not just talking about a rap label. That’s hat separates people in this world. Some think wealth, some think rich, and others don’t think at all.

It’s sad that most people don’t know that Los Angeles used to have one of the best public transportation systems in the world. The automakers (specifically GM) and other private investors bought components of the system and systematically dismantled it to increase our on the automobile. Now, we truly are locked in on our dependence on oil, including the price increases that come with it. We are in deeeeeep trouble as a international society…

I feel you. It’s sad that the American people are so ignorant to the past decisions that have put them in this scenario. More sad is that few even consider the implications on a global scale.

There’s a war going on. It’s for our minds. The enemy profits from our ignorance and apathy. We fight back. Our philosophy: question what we’ve been taught, examine society and create a community that teaches and inspires collective action.
