Half-history

Written by: TROUBLsome

Although Obama has made history by becoming the first, black democratic presidential nominee, history means very little if he doesn’t win the White House. Ultimately, the success of his candidacy will be measured by whether or not he sits on the porcelain throne at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. But, seriously, if Obama doesn’t win, history will seem cheapened. What will be the factors that cheapen history? Here’s our list:

5. The Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy is successful at painting Obama as a Muslim. The VRWC, as they are so-called, has propagated the fallacious belief that Islam is radical extremism. Viral emails circulating since 2007 allege Obama’s father was a radical Muslim extremist. They claim Obama attended a Wahabbi school for two years while living with his stepfather in Jakarta, Indonesia. Though disputed, it is believed Osama Bin Laden is connected with wahabbism, which is the ideology radical extremist have adopted to promote terrorism. And photographs of Obama in traditional Islamic garb have circulated on the Internet. A recent Newsweek poll found that nealy two thirds of Americans think Obama is a Muslim or said they did not know what his religion was.

4. Reverend Jeremiah Wright decides he wants fifteen more minutes of fame—completing an entire half-hour of Obama thrashing. We all understand the problems Obama faced after the Wright controversy. If Wright resurfaces in the media, he will again conjure the negative association many voters already have. Obama will be racist. Obama will be a bigot. Obama will be a radical.

3. A domestic terrorist attack occurs, refueling fear amongst the American people. Critics have said Obama is weak, because he was reluctant to attack Hillary Clinton throughout the primaries and because lacks military experience. America sees Obama’s lack of experience as a hindrance to military might. John McCain, on the other hand, has constructed a political career around his P.O.W. status and is perceived as a stronger Commander-in-chief.

2. Obama gets killed. MLK was taken off this planet. Malcolm X was taken off this planet. JFK was taken off this planet. RFK was taken off this planet. And numerous people want Obama to join the club of progressive leaders, who threatened to make change. Scholars and pundits claim white supremacist organizations, the Israeli C.I.A., Blackwater and even Hillary Clinton want to see Obama dead.

1. Racism is still alive and well. America will not vote for Obama because he is black. Period.

  1. Obama has faced enough criticism in the media to survive #4 and 5. Number 3 worries me. The sad thing about it is ‘The Powers That Be” will actually go as far a creating fear through terror to thwart his candidacy. If it does happen, let’s hope America can see past these charades. Crazy!

Obama’s fight has just begun. Now they are really going to go after him.
I wouldn’t be surprised if some woman/man come out with some person things about his family etc. You name it. Dirt is going to fly.
I do believe that the people have spoken and we can almost see our power. We need to hang in with him and keep on going until he is in the White House and beyond.

Hmmmmmmmm…I don’t know TROUBLsome, last night we saw what our votes have done thus far. Because of our votes Obama is THE FIRST Black candidate to ever lead a major party ticket!!! Even with all the obstacles against him it looks as if he has found favor with GOD!!! This could possibly mark the end of one historic journey with the beginning of another. Rosa took a seat so Martin could take a stand! Martin took a stand so Jesse could run! Jesse ran so Obama could win!

I definitely feel you on every last item you listed as a factor against him, but somehow he still is being propelled into this position—-and I don’t think anything can stop it! Obama has the young vote! We can’t forget that young people are flocking to the polls moreso than any other time in history. I just believe that we are watching fate unfold before our eyes. The stars are aligning…..Obama is going to win!

Why do you think he’s found favor with God as opposed to being simply at the right spot in time to get this far?

Malia reply on June 4, 2008 8:52 am:

Because of all the the factors against him just as the article stated. His views have come into question more than a few times, his unseemly associations, his lack of experience regarding the war. What qualified him? A gift for rhetoric? His color? Not bad qualities but all of this under extreme scruntiny and HE’S STILL HERE!!! If God is not at work on his behalf I don’t know who is!

I think that Obama’s campaign is strong enough to withstand any attacks such as 3-5. Number 1 worries me but I dont think he would have made it this far if that is a significant impediment.

More than anything, I worry about #2. I worry that if he makes it to the white house or just short of the white house he will be assasinated. Members of congress as well as other politicians have spoke on this issue. Yes he has the best security he can get but i worry that its not enough. If he is assasinated, it will be a tremendous loss to the country, our political system and the black community.

Accoding to the rules, the ONLY qualification for POTUS is to be a
u.s. Citizen of a certain age. Clinton han NO war experience. Only
politicians who have been in a war have that experience, not just
military tenure, but actual tour of duty. I’m going to research this,
but to my recollection, it seems to me that every Republican president
in the last 20 years have engaged this country in a war. I could be
wrong, but since reagan, and the two bushes - dumb and dumber - we had wars, and recessions, failing job market, failing housing market, poor stock market and high military spending.

Seemingly, as history has often dictated, those with war experience
were quick to start war. This is not to say that our retaliating
against 9/11 wasn’t warranted, but they could have done better with
the intel. And don’t even get me started on the WMD lies. We are no
better than Pre-war of independence England. But, as the old saying
goes, Those who do not learn from history arecondemned to repeat it.

    This is the remix…

actually #1 is the only thing that scares me.. 4 & 5 is on some “been there, done that” stuff.. #3 he could spin (which he would) to just show yet again why a change is needed.. another tragic event would just show that this Bush regime needs to go.. all that media garbage about him going to Iraq is nonsense and just more of the “machine”.. how many Jr. Senators have gone to Iraq? let’s be real.. what did McCain accomplish by going? just meeting with troops?? again, let’s be real..

#2? that’s a Black man.. point blank.. ain’t no worries there.. dude gets shot, America will have to deal with a bigger internal terrorist movement.. i’ll be right there with them.. they don’t want to see the Black Panthers again.. play if they want.. gangs would unite to do something fierce.. business leaders would band together and raise more money to finance some Che ish.. they don’t want it with us..

I pray every day for his safety and that of his wife and children. There has to be a bounty for his head, and I know that no man can protect him, even though he’s supposed to have the best. He’s in deifinite danger, but he can’t back down from it.

To be honest at first I was wishing he wouldn’t do it. But, he is so I will support and pray for him and his family.

Today I cried, because I look at how far we might have come yet still too long to go.

I want my young man-child to see this in his lifetime and more. When I see him like other Black MEN, I am PROUD. So, I am like Michelle America is finally somewhere I am pride to be finally.

That’s what he says–and I hope he does what he says. But, politicians are in the business of NOT doing what they say. Obama, though, does give me a different feeling. His words make me more inclined to believe his actions will follow. But, it’s not about me. It’s about the rest of the government and politicians he’ll be working with.

The only thing that can derail him him are #1 & #2. Let’s not get it twisted, racism is a powerful thing and people are on the down-low with it. As for assassination, that’s ALWAYS been a possibility since he began his campaign run. I know he can win it if the playing field is level but his side has an upward incline….

  16. I think Obama has to win. He represents the union between two warring cultures in America, the African American and the White American experience. Making him the perfect canidate to reperesent The U.S. he has the ablitiy to bridge a cultural and political gap.

But, Number 2 is the one that worries me the most. I think that history has repeated itself one too many time in this regaurd. Anyone who trail blazes for change when the system gets archaic tends to get dropped and turned into martyr for their cause. Geuss we’ll just have to wait and see what history has in store for us.

Nature says that Obama will win. If you put a healthy young black man in a race with a middle aged white woman and an old white man, the black man will win.
    Obama will be President.
Also, the world is in the worst state it’s ever been in and it’s going to become even worse. There is going to be unimaginable hardships coming and if you watch Deep Impact or 24, you’ll notice that when we reach these time, there’s always a Black President*

There’s a war going on. It’s for our minds. The enemy profits from our ignorance and apathy. We fight back. Our philosophy: question what we’ve been taught, examine society and create a community that teaches and inspires collective action.
